Main Duties of Placement | Variable depending which ward. Mainly consisting of ward rounds (either with consultant or Nurse Practitioners), second-on acute takes, evening on-calls carrying first-on bleep (rarely). |
Typical Work Pattern | Mostly weekdays. Two sets of nights per rotation and approximately 4 weekends. On call shift is 1300-2130 both day and weekends. |
Learning Opportunities | Informal ward teaching, particularly from senior trainees, weekly Medical Unit meeting with educational presentations and plenty of opportunity to do supervised practical procedures. |
Teaching | Weekly FY2 teaching for 1 hour. |
Unique Selling Points | More responsibility with decision making. Often most senior middle grade doctor on a ward making decisions and designating tasks. Plenty of opportunities to do practical procedures. Good support as seniors all very approachable. |
