Main Duties of Placement | The majority of time is spent in theMedical Assessment Unit 'Trolleys' area (similar in some ways to an Emergency Department). This involves seeing referrals from Primary Care with medical presentations plus some 999referals and initiating appropriate management. The nursing, medical and AHP teams in MAU trolleys work very closely and there is direct supervision from a ‘Medical Registrar’ at all times and a Medical Consultant until 8pm daily. There is also a commitment to downstream medical patients on the general medical wards. This involvesdaily review and management of these patients and close working within a multidisciplinary team. |
Typical Work Pattern | Varies between 9.00 -1800, 12.00 - 20.00, 1400 - 21.30,15.30 - 23.00, 1700-0100 with hospital at night shifts of 21.00 - 09.00 and weekend shifts of 9.00-21.00. |
Learning Opportunities | As well as weekly F2 teaching there is dedicated departmental teaching for doctors in training andweekly departmental meetings attended by the whole unit. There is plenty of opportunity for involvement in quality improvement and clinical audit work. |
