Placement	Acute Internal Medicine and General (Internal) Medicine

Main Duties of Placement	Acute Medicine: Clerking acute medical admissions, going on consultant ward rounds (8am and 4.30pm), reviewing unwell patients, liaising with other specialties both within and beyond RIE. General (Internal) Medicine: Accompanying senior team members on ward rounds. Ward work, including discharge summaries.
Typical Work Pattern	Acute Medicine: This job is full shift, with blocks of day (08.00 to 18.00), late (16.30 to 23.00) and night (22.00 to 09.00) shifts. General (Internal) Medicine: One week of 8.30am - 5pm days followed by 4 days of 2.15-9.15pm shifts. There are weekends where ward cover is provided by the F1. There is no Hospital at Night commitment on this job.
Learning Opportunities	Teaching on ward rounds. The specialty doctor offers frequent ward-based teaching. There is a daily "business" MDT.
Teaching	Hospital F1 teaching programme 1 hour per week (Tuesday). Acute Medicine teaching programme 1hour per week (Friday). The specialty doctor offers frequent ward-based teaching. There is a daily "business" MDT.
Unique Selling Points	Assessing medical patients who are acutely ill, consultant teaching on ward rounds. The time spent in Acute Medicine is identified as a strong point in this placement.
