Main Duties of Placement

Consultant-led ward rounds, clerking and initial assessment of patients admitted as acute surgical admissions/ortho trauma.

Peri-operative patient care on wards.

Management peri-operative patients on call in conjunction with HAN.

Typical Work Pattern

Full shift rota on a 16 week cycle. Shifts include ward-based, acute surgical receiving, HAN,

Learning Opportunities

Ward-based learning.

MDMT and other speciality-specific meetings.

General Surgery teaching programme with rota'd FY1 involvement.

Ortho Trauma meetings.


Mandatory teaching.

General Surgery teaching programme with timetabled FY1/2 involvement.

Ward-based teaching Ortho/Gen Surg by specialist trainees.

Weekly grand rounds for whole acute division.
