Placement Palliative Medicine, Haematology and Oncology
Year F1

Hospital(s) Borders General Hospital, Melrose
Main Duties of Placement

Palliative care ward round and jobs. Day oncology patient medical reviews in the Borders Macmillan Centre. Team meetings. Option to join haematology ward rounds and meetings.

Typical Work Pattern

Full shift.

Learning Opportunities

As per teaching below. Opportunities to witness and perform procedures e.g. ascitic taps and bone marrow aspiration.

Teaching

Weekly teaching, journal club, XR meeting and teaching on ward rounds.

Unique Selling Points

Good mixture of clinical roles. Close long-term interaction with small number of patients. Working closely with specialist consultants. Interesting specialist fields. Quite high degree of responsibility/autonomy.
