Main Duties of Placement | The FY1 will rotate around various areas within the renal unit (Ward 4A – high acuity, 4D – general nephrology, renal day area/assessment unit). Ward rounds with consultant three times per week. Assessing patients with renal disease who attend our OP assessment area. The FY1 will be supported by a nurse practitioner on the ward.

Typical Work Pattern | Currently the FY1 in renal could be linked with acute medical receiving if required or may involve weekend shifts within the renal unit. |
Learning Opportunities | Consultant teaching ward rounds three times per week. Weekly transplant journal club. Monthly renal unit CME Friday afternoons. Monthly renal unit pathology CPC meeting and monthly M+M meeting. |
Teaching | Weekly dedicated junior tier renal teaching by consultant every Wednesday at 3pm. Feedback is positive. Central line insertion course for each 4 month block. |
Unique Selling Points | Hands on, enthusiastic, consultant team who do 3 ward rounds per week and see all new patients within 12-24h. Two consultants doing weekend ward rounds. Very friendly team and lots of supervision by registrars on ward. FY2 encouraged to do audit and present at unit meeting. Feedback very positive from recent trainees. Excellent post for gaining core foundation competencies and procedural skills. |
