Main Duties of Placement
|
- 4-month rotation where you will be based on the vascular ward with Medicine for the Older Adult (MOA) physicians, assessing and managing peri-operative vascular patients over the age of 60
- University Hospital Hairmyres is a tertiary vascular centre for NHS Lanarkshire, Ayrshire & Arran and Dumfries & Galloway
- Duties will include participation in ward rounds, organising relevant investigations, making appropriate referrals, liaising with the vascular surgical team and communicating with GPs and relatives
- you will be part of the multidisciplinary team
- You will be part of the cardiac arrest team when on-call

Learning Opportunities
|
- Regular informal teaching on ward rounds
- You are expected to attend teaching sessions with 2 hours of protected teaching per week as noted below

Teaching
|
- Informal on ward rounds and at MDT meetings
- Dedicated FY1 teaching on Thursday lunchtimes (protected teaching time) following the foundation curriculum
- Postgraduate Medical Education meetings on Wednesday lunchtimes (protected teaching time)
- MOA teaching on a Monday lunchtime
- Opportunity to undertake case-based discussions with consultant supervisors

- Excellent induction and handovers including to the Hospital Emergency Care Team (HECT)
- Good teaching programme throughout the placement
- Useful experience assessing and managing the peri-operative care of vascular patients with multiple co-morbidities
- Good experience of managing patients within a multidisciplinary team setting, between medicine & surgery
- Excellent support working alongside experienced Advanced Vascular Nurse Practitioners, the vascular team and MOA consultants.
