Main Duties of Placement | Care of a wide range of medical conditions within an HDU setting. Treatment of medical emergencies including acute coronary syndromes, gastro-intestinal bleeding, acute renal failure and diabetic ketoacidosis. |
Typical Work Pattern | On-call as part of General Medicine team. One late working until 21:30hrs per week and weekends worked 1 in 4. No night working. Holidays are pre-allocated. |
Learning Opportunities | There are daily consultant ward rounds. There is exposure to insertion of central and arterial lines and the use of non-invasive ventilation. Grand Rounds on Fridays. |
Teaching | Mandatory curriculum teaching is on a Wednesday lunctime. This is protected time. |
