Individual Placement Description
Placement Paediatrics
Year F1

Main Duties of Placement
  • 4-month rotation where you will be based in the paediatric wards at University Hospital Wishaw. You will be assisting with the acute assessment of and the management of  patients with predominantly medical paediatric problems along with a range of medical subspecialties including, respiratory, diabetes & endocrinology, gastroenterology, rheumatology and neurology / neurodevelopment. Their will be some exposure to paediatric surgical and Orthopaedics for medical aspects.
  • Duties will include assisting with admission of  patients and families , organising relevant investigations, working in the multidisciplinary ward work and communicating with GPs and relatives
  • You will be part of the multidisciplinary team
Typical Work Pattern
  • Variable hours between 9am and 7pm
  • Supported by resident 2 ward Consultants,  and 2 tiers Foundation Year 2, GPST and Paeds ST doctors

  • You are expected to attend teaching sessions with 2 hours of protected teaching per week as noted below

Teaching

  • Dedicated F1 teaching (protected teaching time) following the foundation curriculum
