Main Duties of Placement | TraineeĀ on for wards out of hours and nights. Attend clinics and help out. SurgicalĀ trainee in theatre. |
Typical Work Pattern | Full shift. 8AM to 6PM most days. Significant theatre allocation load. Days spent in clinics, wards and HDU occasionally. |
Learning Opportunities | Working closely with experienced Anaesthetic and Cardiothoracic staff, both registrars and consultants. Formal opportunities as below. |
Teaching | Registrar teaching each Friday for one hour. Different topics from cardiac and thoracic anatomy, diseases, and surgery. Journal club with case presentation by registrars and discussion. |
Unique Selling Points | Unique speciality removed from the majority of hospitals (DGH and central) and allows an opportunity to see acute cardiology, acute cardiac interventions, and unique thoracic pathology not experienced elsewhere. Opportunity to take part in HDU ward rounds. |
