| Main Duties of Placement | Care of adults within the geriatric medical setting. This includes emergency and elective care, attending and leading ward rounds, in-patient and outpatient work. There is a commitment to the acute receiving. |
| Typical Work Pattern | Partial shift, including late and night shifts; mainly cover for inpatients. Involvement in the Hospital at Night team. |
| Learning Opportunities | Numerous opportunities exist within the Department of Medicine for the Elderly including the assessment of acute and elective admissions, the opportunity to participate in audit and clinical governance projects, attendance at outpatient clinics and multi-disciplinary team meetings. Involvement with our unit CPD meetings is encouraged. |
| Teaching | We have weekly trainee teaching on a Tuesday lunchtime and weekly unit CPD on a Thursday lunchtime. There are weekly hospital-based Clinical Society meetings within term time. |
| Unique Selling Points | Well-supervised posts with an excellent senior support. There are regular junior doctor forums where we encourage trainee opinion. Strong team-based approach where we help each other. We have structured the rotas so that trainees spend significant blocks of time working with a specific team (roughly 7 weeks). Trainees will be allocated to a clinic a week so that they are able to gain outpatient experience. |
