Main Duties of Placement

Duties include ward round and patient management responsibilities involving acute medical receiving patients and continuing care medical and care of elderly patients at Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

Typical Work Pattern

Full shift, early or late, and Hospital at Night and Weekend Team.

Learning Opportunities

Formal weekly hospital teaching session for FY1 doctors.

Weekly departmental meetings with opportunities to present.

Multidisciplinary meetings.

Regular mortality meetings.

Grand rounds each Wednesday.

Wide access to internet and therefore e-learning.

Demanding post with many opportunities to learn during clinical care.

Teaching

Formal weekly FY1 teaching programme Thursdays 12:30 to 13:30 at Postgraduate Centre. Opportunities for informal teaching and to develop teaching skills.

Unique Selling Points

Busy city teaching hospital serving north & east Glasgow with intake of a wide spectrum of cases including tertiary referrals for various medical specialties. All trainees are closely supervised. Emergency receiving is consultant-led, with senior trainees on overnight and actively involved in patient care. Daily ward rounds led by consultants and experienced middle grade staff. Opportunities to participate in audit.
