Placement Emergency Medicine

Hospital(s) University Hospital Crosshouse, Kilmarnock, Ayrshire
Main Duties of Placement

Assessing all acute minor and major presentations to the A+E department, and making a diagnosis and management plan for them. This includes seeing paediatric emergencies.

Typical Work Pattern

Full shifts including night shifts.

Learning Opportunities

Absolutely fantastic learning opportunities as the medical exposure is so vast. You will see a spectrum of well to very sick patients and, as there is a paediatric component to the department, your skills and confidence with working with children will be greatly improved. A senior is always available to discuss difficult cases and teach clinical skills such as suturing, airway management in resuscitation etc.

Teaching

Weekly teaching every Wednesday.

Participation in audits which are presented at the end of the block.

Unique Selling Points

Exposes you to a variety of patients and specialities. Enables you to develop your clinical and decision-making skills. Absolutely fantastic hands on learning! It is a job which really demands a lot of energy, time and hard work but totally pays off by providing amazing experience with managing all sorts of medical problems.
