Placement Obstetrics and Gynaecology

Hospital(s) University Hospital Crosshouse, Kilmarnock, Ayrshire
Main Duties of Placement

First on-call for labour ward.

Assisting in elective/emergency theatre.

Ward rounds.

Initial assessment and management of emergency admissions.

Outpatient obstetric and gynaecology clinics.

Typical Work Pattern

Three full days, one half day and one long day per week.

Three to four weekends per four month block (cross cover).

At least seven nights per four month block (crosscover for Gynae, Orthopaedics and ENT).

Learning Opportunities

Ward-based teaching and clinics.

Weekly teaching afternoons.

Journal club.

Monthly morbidity/mortality meetings.

Teaching

Teaching takes place every Friday afternoon for all trainees/registrars.

Consultants are very hands on and willing to teach.

Excellent Medical Library and Education Centre/Postgraduate facilities.
