Speciality: Intensive Care Medicine
The training experience gained in ICM in the East of Scotland programme is based mainly in Ninewells Hospital in Dundee, with attachments to other major Scottish Teaching Hospitals. The programme is flexible to accommodate the needs and interests of the successful candidate(s) resulting in the required experience to obtain a CCT in ICM.
The Intensive Care Unit in Ninewells provides wide clinical experience in all aspects of general intensive care along with limited exposure to selected paediatric cases. The case mix of patients includes medical, surgical & trauma including those with traumatic brain injury. This reflects the breadth of clinical activity in Ninewells Hospital, providing all specialties on one site with the exception of cardiothoracic surgery. This post provides the opportunity to become proficient in all aspects of care of the critically ill including invasive monitoring, renal replacement therapy, ECHO and a variety of ventilatory support modes.
Academic links with the University of Dundee provide scope for research projects.
Subspecialty interests and requirements of the trainee not provided in Tayside will be accommodated out with the Deanery by agreed placement in GMC approved centres.
