Speciality: Sport and Exercise Medicine
The higher training scheme would encompass four years: ST3 – ST6. It is envisaged that the Public Health Medicine component would run longitudinally over the first two – three years of the training programme to allow trainees to develop a project and follow it through to its conclusion
ST3
Emergency Medicine 6/12 and General Practice 6/12
Emergency Medicine – Glasgow Royal Infirmary ED (or alternative ED) and attached Minor Injuries Unit.
General Practice – Barclays Medical Practice. Barclays have practices in Glasgow, Edinburgh and West Lothian.
Complete Part 1 of the MFSEM examination
ST4
Rheumatology / Orthopaedics / Paediatric MSK
12 months
This year can be flexible. Trainees can do three four month posts or have one base department in any of these specialties and organise appropriate training in the other specialties by attending weekly clinics throughout the year. It is envisaged that MSK clinics will continue to be undertaken longitudinally throughout the remainder of the training programme.

ST5
Exercise Medicine / Rehabilitation
12 months
This year can be flexible. Trainees can have one base department in a speciality, eg, Cardiology, and attend clinics / attachments in Geriatric Medicine, Respiratory, Diabetes, Spinal, Rehabilitation (physiotherapy) to achieve competencies.

Complete Part 2 of the MFSEM examination
ST6
Elite Sport
12 months
Attached to the Scottish Institute of Sport (SIS) with bases in Stirling, Glasgow and Edinburgh. This year would involve elite sport competencies, disability sport, MSK radiology and team sport attachments.

Complete CCT and apply for FFSEM.

As this is a national training programme the posts below are provisional and flexible depending upon the trainee’s geographical location. It would also be possible for the trainees to organise a convenient base, pending approval, to complete a portion of their training competencies.
