Individual Placement Description
Placement General Psychiatry
Year F2
Region East
Hospital(s) Carseview Centre, Dundee
Main Duties of Placement
  • Continuity of patient care.
  • Acute assessment of acutely disturbed patients.
  • Health screen checks and ongoing investigation.
  • The community part of the placement involves:
    • assessment of new patients referred to the team.
    • follow up with medication switches and ongoing review of their mental state.
  • Additional duties include ECT and on call.
  • Team meetings once per week in the community.
  • Bi-weekly consultant ward meetings.
  • Dictating admission notes and discharge summaries.
  • Attending tribunal meetings for switching patients from emergency detention to short term detention and from short term to compulsory treatment order.
Typical Work Pattern
  • Part of 1 in 11 on-call rota.
  • Outpatient clinics twice weekly.
Learning Opportunities
  • Twice weekly MDT meetings.
  • Weekly journal club meeting.
  • Consultants encourage development of a teaching plan.
  • Opportunities for audit and research.
Teaching
  • FY2 teaching as per delivered education programme.
  • Weekly teaching sessions where cases and their management are discussed.
  • Trainees encouraged to present at weekly meetings.
  • Opportunity to teach medical students and junior doctors.
  • Opportunities to get invovled with management in order to improve patient care.
