Placement Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery
Year F1

Hospital(s) Perth Royal Infirmary
Main Duties of Placement
  • Ward duties (bloods, elective clerking, ward rounds, post op reviews, prescribing)
  • Pre-assessment clinic
  • Work as part of team with ANPs/FY2s/Consultants
  • Night duties – undertaken in Ninewells
  • Ward duties on Ward 1 Medicine for the Elderly
  • Participate in elective theatre cases
Typical Work Pattern

Standard days, long days.

Part of rota including Ninewells Hospital.

Night duties at Ninewells. 

Learning Opportunities
  • Daily elective orthopaedic theatre lists
  • Daily ortho Out-patient clinics
  • Consultant Teaching on ward rounds, clinics and theatre
  • Attend regional PG Teaching
  • Bedside teaching from senior MFE doctors on ward 1
Teaching
  • Regular Centralised Orthopaedic Departmental Teaching
  • Attend Daily Trauma meetings whilst in Ninewells
  • Post-graduate Deanery Teaching with cross cover of wards
