Main Duties of Placement

Consultant-led ward rounds, clerking and initial assessment of patients admitted to both AMAU and ward.

Assessment and management of acute problems with inpatients in conjunction with HaN team.

Typical Work Pattern

Hybrid rota with blocks of 8am-5pm ward-based activities and blocks of full shift pattern activities in AMAU.

Learning Opportunities

Lots of opportunity for ward round-based teaching in both wards and AMAU.

Morbidity and Mortality meetings monthly in AMAU.

Weekly grand rounds for whole acute division.

Many teams (esp MOE) have weekly MDT meetings.

Teaching

Mandatory protected teaching time for:

  • NHS Fife Medical Education Services FY1 Core Education Programme delivering 1 hour per week.
  • NHS Fife Medical Education Services FY1 Core Simulation Programme delivering 3 sessions per block.

Department teaching:

  • Weekly Medical Department X-ray meeting-open to all (30-45 min/week).
  • Grand rounds  open to all (1hr/week).
  • MOE departmental journal club open to all.
  • Trainees encouraged to present as opportunity to complete "developing the clinical teacher" competency (1hr/week).
Unique Selling Points
