Main Duties of Placement

This is a Medicine of the Elderly post in a community hospital

Your remit will be the day-to-day care of frail elderly patients recovering from an acute illness

You will provide late shift cover to the unit alongside a Nurse Practitioner and weekend on-calls are within the MOE wards of the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. 

Typical Work Pattern

9-5 Monday to Friday with 1 in 4 weeks working 12-9

1 in 5 weekends at RIE MOE

Learning Opportunities

Comprehensive geriatric assessment, management of multimorbidity, anticipatory care planning, complex discharge planning, palliative care, Hospital@Home taster week, medical student teaching. 

Teaching

Weekly unit teaching on a Monday at ELCH. Video linked teaching from MOE at RIE on a Tuesday.

All trainees are given the option of a 1 week taster in Hospital@Home

Additionally, you can develop your teaching skills by teaching 4th year medical students.
