Placement General (Internal) Medicine

Main Duties of Placement

Ward rounds and ward work; there is a daily consultant presence as well as frequent consultant review ward rounds. There is also a designated Specialty Doctor.

Typical Work Pattern

12 days of varying long and short shifts followed by approximately a fortnight off, during which
time HAN commitments will be completed. Formal allocated dictation days are
included in the rota.

Learning Opportunities

The specialty doctor offers frequent ward-based teaching. There is a daily "business" MDT.

Teaching

Hospital F2 teaching programme 1 hour per week (Thursday).

CAA teaching programme 1 hour per week (Friday).

Unique Selling Points

This is a busy post which involves the assessment of a wide variety of medical presentations. It is well supported at consultant level and there is also a ward-based specialty doctor. Anyone undertaking this role will experience a wide range of clinical, communication and time management skills. This post lends itself well to those considering a career in General Practice, Acute or Emergency Medicine, General Internal Medicine or Medicine of the Elderly.
