Placement Oncology
Year F1

Main Duties of Placement

You will be part of the GI oncology team. Here you will spend most of your days on the wards doing your own ward rounds. On these you will review your patients and amend treatment plans as required.

There are 2 consultant ward rounds per week and they will see their patients and give more definitive plans.

In between times, you can go to clinics and sit in as well as being able to watch radiotherapy planning sessions.

Typical Work Pattern

Generally you work 0900-1700 with cross covering AMAU Beds from 1700-2130 if working from 0900-2130.

Weekends are spent in AMAU Beds from 0900-2130.

Learning Opportunities

Lots of consultant contact so can learn from them easily.

Ability to go to clinic for half days as well as spend time watching radiotherapy planning.

Teaching

FY1 teaching at WGH for 1 hour per week.

Watching radiotherapy planning – a great opportunity to see something not done in other specialties and gain good imaging skills.
