The West has 7 Foundation Priority Programmes based in the West. These programmes offered provide remote and rural exposure and provide trainees with a greater awareness of the patient journey including primary/community and secondary interfaces in a remote and rural setting.

30 - REMOTE AND RURAL PROGRAMMES - W22, W24 posts in Dumfries and Galloway

  • On site weekly curriculum mapped Foundation teaching

15 - COASTAL PROGRAMME - W33 posts in Ayr and Kilmarnock

  • Simulation training opportunities available at on-site simulation centres

  • Supportive opportunities for QI and audit projects
  • Development days for F1s and protected regular development time for F2s
  • Excellent wellbeing service and the first health board in Scotland to introduce dedicated wellbeing spaces and an award-winning medical peer support service
  • Free on-site parking and post on-call rest facilities
  • Diverse catchment area including rural and urban, including areas of significant social deprivation
  • Ayrshire has spectacular scenery with stunning countryside and wide sandy beaches to explore
  • Multiple leisure opportunities on the doorstep with water sports including sailing, kite surfing, paddleboarding
  • Ayrshire boasts multiple championship golf courses and exceptional road and off-road cycling
  • Excellent transport links to the vibrant city of Glasgow and close proximity to Glasgow and Glasgow Prestwick airport

 

Due to the geographical nature of some of the locations, at times public transport can prove challenging, therefore a valid driver’s licence and access to a vehicle may be helpful for some F2 rotations.
