Individual Placement Description
Placement Acute Internal Medicine with Intensive Care Medicine (based in Critical Care)
Year F1
Region West

Main Duties of Placement

This new rotation will involve working within acute medical receiving on the combined assessment unit, acute surgical receiving on the surgical assessment unit and rotating through the critical care unit.  Duties will be assessing and clerking new admissions, and working alongside receiving teams for the ongoing management and investigation of patients.  The rotation through critical care will involve working within the critical care team caring for both high dependency and intensive care patients.

Typical Work Pattern

Full shift pattern including night shifts.

Teaching

Protected weekly foundation training. Weekly medical grand rounds. Weekly medical journal club. Clinical skills teaching. Introduction to simulation based teaching. Anaesthetic and critical care teaching.

This is new post created for F1 in addition to 4 month posts in medicine and surgery.  This provides opportunity to experience focussed receiving and critical care medicine. DGRI is Scotland’s newest fully functional hospital, covering a large geographical but rural area.  Complimentary, high quality on site residences are provided for two years of foundation training.
