Placement Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery

Main Duties of Placement

Ward based care of trauma and elective patients.

Clinic and theatre exposure as part of academic week.

Typical Work Pattern

1 academic week for theatre and clinics every 6 weeks.

Learning Opportunities

Broad range of subspecialties – hip, knee, foot & ankle, recon, shoulder & elbow, hand & wrist and MSK oncology.

Research department within department giving excellent opportunities for research projects and audit.

Good opportunity to maximise research points on ST/CT applications.

Teaching
  • Daily trauma meeting
  • Weekly Junior Doctor teaching programme (Tuesdays)
  • Weekly X- Ray review meeting (Fridays)

Academic week gives wide range of opportunities to all junior doctors.

For those considering a career in a surgical specialty or anaesthetics it gives excellent experience in theatre.

Alternatively for those considering a career in medicine or general practice the attachment affords excellent exposure to the assessment of MSK patients both in the ward and clinic.
