Unique Selling Points

This placement is an opportunity to experience first hand the daily work of histopathology trainees and consultants in Britain's largest and busiest histopathology department. FY2s will become involved in dissection, reporting and autopsy work and, with senior staff, observe (at MDTs) the pathologist's role in the clinical-pathological team. This placement constitutes an ideal opportunity for aspiring pathologists to gain valuable experience in preparation for application for an ST post in histopathology. It also provides an excellent basis for those intending to pursue a career in surgery, radiology or oncology to develop an understanding of tumour classification, staging and pathology reporting and to obtain practical anatomical experience through exposure to a broad range of surgical specimens as well as gaining understanding of how the pathology component of the MDT operates.  Exposure to laboratory medicine and interface with other specialties (radiology, oncology, surgery) at MDTs across a range of disciplines.  Work with combined medical and scientist staff.  Alternative medical career.

It is important to note that this description is a typical example of your placement and may be subject to change.
