Placement General Adult Psychiatry
Year F2
Region West
Hospital(s) Leverndale Hospital
Main Duties of Placement

Each placement will involve both inpatient and outpatient work. 

Inpatient work will involve working with a named consultant, attending ward rounds and having responsibility for the day-to-day care of their patients. 

Duty doctor work on the ward and emergency on-call at the hospital.

You will also be attached to a team which works in the community, do outpatient clinics and  possibly be involved in home visits with other staff.

You will be a member of the community mental health team involving medical staff, psychologists, nurses, occupational therapists, healthcare assistants and social workers.

Typical Work Pattern

Hybrid with partial shift and full shift.

Learning Opportunities

Teaching attended by all medical staff on Thursdays, journal club and lots of opportunities to attend or have contact with other staff in multidisciplinary meetings and ward teaching.

Opportunities in the community for home visits and work with community psychiatric nurses. Audit opportunities and a diverse range of psychiatric specialities.

Teaching

Protected once weekly supervision with clinical supervisor. 

Opportunities to present cases and present journal club at internal teaching fortnightly in term time. 

Informal teaching and contact with senior staff.
