Placement Otolaryngology

Hospital(s) University Hospital Crosshouse, Kilmarnock, Ayrshire
Main Duties of Placement

· Ward rounds/ward work.

· 1st on-call (1 in 3 days).

· Emergency clinics twice per week.

Typical Work Pattern

Half day (0830-1200).

Full day (0830-1600).

On-Call (0830-2115).

Learning Opportunities

Ward-based teaching.

Emergency clinics.

Head and Neck cancer MDT.

ENT Departmental meetings (weekly).

Teaching

No formal teaching; occurs in clinical setting usually when on-call.

Occasional teaching sessions at ENT Departmental meeting.

Unique Selling Points

Close working relationship with seniors/consultants.

First person to see acute ENT emergencies.

Practical i.e. nasal cauterisation/nasendoscopy.

Can present at ENT departmental meetings.
