Placement Gastroenterology

Main Duties of Placement

Care of patients with hepatic and gastrointestinal disease, also general medical admissions.

Ward rounds.

3 week placement in the Acute Receiving Unit.

Typical Work Pattern

15 week rolling rota.

Usually on base ward.

Occasionally required to cross cover another specialty.

Learning Opportunities

Ward-based.

Can attend clinics if time.

Teaching

Protected Tuesday lunchtime teaching.

Wednesday lunchtime hospital meeting.

F2 days away teaching.

F2 clinical skills week.

Monthly academic half day.

Unique Selling Points

Opportunity to become skilled at managing patients with liver disease/failure and inflammatory bowel disease as well as other less common disease.

Plenty of opportunity for practical experience such as ascetic taps and insertion of ascetic drains.

Good teaching on ward rounds.
