Placement Addictions Psychiatry

Main Duties of Placement

FY2 post at Woodland View Ward 5, 10-bedded Addictions Psychiatry Inpatient Unit, with supervision provided by Consultant Psychiatrists.

Ward tasks specific to Ward 5 include:-

  • ward tasks as required in collaboration with Ward 5 Clinical Development Fellow
  • support MDT care for inpatient elective alcohol / polysubstance detoxification, including support of pre-admission planning / discharge planning and initiation of relapse prevention medications, with Consultant supervision
  • supporting MDT care for 3-week inpatient elective rehabilitation, including pre-admission planning and discharge planning
Typical Work Pattern

Participation in the junior doctor rota currently 1 in 18 nights, long days and 1-9pm back shifts, with and 1 in 9 weekends. These are done at the base hospital of Woodland View in Irvine and covers all psychiatric specialities. The 9-5 element of the post has a significant community component and is based at the nearby Caley Court resource centre in Stevenston. A car is essential given the community component.

  • opportunity to work with various MDT colleagues as part of the 3 Ayrshire Community Addictions Teams
Teaching

Providing peer support for medical students, participating in centralised FY2 Teaching programme.
