Placement Palliative Care

Hospital(s) Strathcarron Hospice, Forth Valley
Main Duties of Placement

To assess patients admitted to the hospice for management of pain and other symptoms as well as those who are admitted for end of life care

To work alongside the responsible Consultant to provide ongoing care and to make changes to medications to manage symptoms

To attend and contribute to the multi-professional team meeting which is held weekly

To contribute to discharge planning meetings and update families and carers regarding management plans and changes in condition

Typical Work Pattern

While at the hospice, 9am to 5pm

No out of hours committments.

Learning Opportunities

This post will offer the opportunity to assess patients who have cancer or non-cancer illnesses that are causing them to experience pain and other symptoms. There will be plenty of opportunities to learn about pain management, management of the dying patient, develop your communication skills and learn from the other members of the multi-professional team.

Teaching

There is regular teaching for the medical team and there are also opportunities to join hospice meetings that include QI meetings and journal club. Consultant ward rounds are viewed as opportunities for teaching also. We will encourage you to attend all teaching that is planned at FVRH also to ensure that you have regular contact with peers.
