5 partners. Undergraduate tutor for Dundee Longitudial  Clerkship Scheme and for Newcastle 3rd year clinical skills teaching. Foundation year training. NES Practice management training. Methadone Clinic, Minor surgery, Joint injections, Toe-nail surgery. Nexplanon fitting.  Special interest in dermatology. Physical Activity promotion lead for region.

Any interesting features of the practice :

Semi-rural practice which includes the town of Dalbeattie and the Colvend Coast – an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Purpose built premises which opened in September 2014.  Dedicated registrar consulting room. Weekly practice educational meeting and regular multidisciplinary meetings. In-practice district nursing team. We are a very innovative practice with an unusually wide range of holistic services for our patients, including Community chaplaincy Listening, Social Prescribing, in-house OT and social work clinics, Liaison Psychology and Iris Massage for patients with cancer. 

Educational opportunities :                       

We have a strong educational ethos and have been a training practice since 1973. You will be exposed to a full range of general practice in a friendly and supportive environment. The whole practice team is involved in training and trainees become an integral part of the team. We encourage them to attend the weekly practice business meeting and contribute to management decisions. We also encourage involvement with undergraduate and FY2 teaching. Day release in nearby newly built Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary.

Advantages/opportunities of working in your practice :

Friendly, sociable and supportive practice team with peer support from other trainees - GPSTs / FY2s and longitudinal medical students within the practice. Dalbeattie is well known as an extremely friendly town with strong community spirit. The practice team are actively involved in local developments particularly related to improving activity levels in the town. We are on the edge of Dalbeattie Forest – one of the 7-Stanes mountain biking centres. There are very active running and cycling clubs in Dalbeattie and fantastic hill and coastal walks and local sailing. Weekly hot rolls and dedicated chocolate drawer.The popularity of this area to live and work in is reflected in the fact that 3 of the current partners were former trainees.
