Type of practice
We serve a mainly urban population with some areas of deprivation. We also cover the rural areas of Luss and Gartochan and more affluent parts, such as Balloch. We even have a few patients on an island in the middle of Loch Lomond. The GPSTs are therefore able to gain a wide range of experience in various social circumstances.
List Size
Approximately 5,000
Number of partners and outside interests
We have two full time principals and three part-time. Our Practice Manager is also a partner.
General Practice is given first priority, but between the partners, other interests include care of the elderly, education, paediatrics, dermatology, drug addiction, sexual health and family planning.
Phil is the programme director and course organiser for the district.
Any interesting features of the practice
We have recently moved to wonderful new purpose build premises. The extra space has allowed STs to have their own room, and helped our wish to work together with all members of the primary care team. Routine appointments are for 15 mins.
Educational opportunities
Training is given top priority within the practice both for STs and medical students, with the STs always having access to friendly and supportive advice. Informal discussion is encouraged over morning coffee, as well as protected tutorial time twice a week. STs are expected to be an integral part of our team both clinically and with practice management. This includes taking a turn at chairing practice meetings.
Advantages/opportunities of working in your practice
We enjoy immediate access to spectacular scenery, mountaineering, golf, fishing, sailing and the cultural highlights of Glasgow. Easily commutable from Glasgow. Half a dozen of our previous trainees are now working in the area.
Informal enquiries always welcome : Tel : Philip Gordon 01389 828616.
