Interesting Features.
Kilmacolm is a beautiful village in between Paisley and Greenock. It takes 30 minutes from Glasgows west end and is easily accessible via the M8 motorway, however it retains a village feel with a strong community and local identity. The practice is at the centre of this village, having been a traditional doctors surgery since the turn of the century. The area is one of the more affluent regions of the west of scotland, giving our registrars an interesting and unique experience. Drs Vas is currently a clinical assistant in Breast surgery, he also has an interest in business and has in the past been an associate specialist in dermatology. Dr Luty works for NES as an associate advisor in GP CPD and has an interest in medical education. Dr Simpson works within GP appraisal, and has been a principle trainer at Dorema for over 10 years.
Educational Opportunities.
Each of the partners at Dorema has completed the trainers course and enjoy training as part of their workload. The practice has medical students for one block per year, FY2s and GP STs, there are regular practice educational meetings, audit presentations, SEA meetings and multidisciplinary team meetings. Drs Vas and Dr Luty both perform joint injections and Dr Vas has a minor surgery list every other week. Both Drs Vas and Luty undertake OOH work and there are opportunities to be involved with educational events locally.
Advantages/ Opportunities.
The population is primarily well educated and affluent,  and includes patients in the surrounding villages of Houston, Quarriers and some of the more rural farms. However our catchment also extends to the more urban conurbation of Port glasgow, and our STs will have the opportunity to see both ends of the social spectrum and have the experience in dealing with patients from all backgrounds by the end of their training. Dorema sits in-between the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley and Inverclyde royal in Greenock, giving the practice very good links with both hospitals. We are priviledged  to have an excellent district nursing team who are willing to take part in educational events and a health visitor with superb local links who has provided excellent training to all staff on matters of child developments infant feeding etc. We are supported by two practice nurses, Helen abram and Janet McLaren who are the lead on asthma diabetes and copd within the practice and an invaluable resource to all staff.
