Type of practice

We are an extremely enthusiastic and friendly training practice located “up the hill” in Port Glasgow in our own practice premises. Our patients are mainly from Port Glasgow but our catchment area also extends into the East end of Greenock, Kilmacolm and Langbank. Training is a way of life for us, having been a training practice for over 30 years. All our staff including administrative staff, nursing staff and attached staff is involved in training, and they warmly welcome trainees to the practice.

We are four partners – Dr Lauren Copeland, Dr Jen Dooley, Dr Morven MacPhie and Dr Stephen Page. Lauren, Jen and Morven were all trained in this practice. Too good to leave! Dr Paul MacNamara also works with us. In addition to specialist GP training, we also have FY2s working in the practice and offer a Student Selected Component (SSC) to 4th year medical students. Dr MacNamara can support any doctor in training with us to publish their work in the medical literature.

Dr Dooley is the Cluster Quality Lead for our local cluster, Inverclyde East. There are therefore ample opportunities to be involvement in some exciting quality improvement projects.

Other areas of specialist interest include contraception (Nexplanon fittings and removals), Methadone prescribing in a well organised clinic, and steroid joint injections.

Educational Opportunities

As we are a long established training practice, we have a sound ethos of training, support and education within the practice. Educational time is protected within the working week, so there is ample opportunity for e portfolio reflection and logging, tutorials, work place based assessments and attendance at external teaching. We encourage visits to local services during your training including opticians, social work, community mental health team, amongst others. You will feel  valued as part of our team.  Our local training website (for Clyde Southward) has excellent resources for exam preparation. Check it out: http://glasgowgptraining.com/
