Number of partners and outside interests

We are a team of 6 partners working between 5 and 9 sessions per week. We are a very experienced training practice with three 3 current trainers and 3 other partners with experience of undergraduate training. 1 trainer is currently the TPD for Lanarkshire GP Training.

Our interests are eclectic and varied, ranging from poultry-keeping to ballet with dogs, family, baking, biking and gardening thrown in too.

Any interesting features of the practice

We have the pleasure of working out of one of Glasgow’s newest health and care centres located in Eastwood, between Giffnock and Clarkston. We also have a small surgery in Eaglesham and divide our time and training between these 2 sites. This offers variety and contrast and a short but pleasant drive through the fields between the sites.

We have a high speed data link between the 2 practices and have invested in digital technologies such as dual screens for consulting rooms, facilities for video consultations, online services for patients and self-check in machines.

Educational opportunities

These are wide and varied and reflect the experience of the partners who have worked across a number of hospital specialties. There are opportunities to observe clinics across all chronic disease areas and gain experience in patient triage. We run a minor surgery clinic as well as a post-natal service and play an active part in the ST1 and ST3 day release programmes. We like to involve our trainees in all aspects of the life of the practice from patient contact to business meetings and social events. We currently have two ST3 and one ST1 trainee providing a great environment to share experiences and learn from each other.

Advantages/opportunities of working in your practice

We are proud to provide a very high standard of care and previously achieved highly on our QOF points. We are all very committed to training and enjoy the stimulus of having young and enthusiastic doctors in the practice. We have an excellent track record of nurturing trainees to achieve MRCGP and preparing for professional life beyond training.

We are also very aware of the need to maintain a healthy work/life balance and meet as a practice team every Friday for lunch. We discuss the business of the week as well plans for the weekend and any interesting or challenging patients that we have encountered. Prior to the Great British Bake Off we already had a Friday cake competition with a trophy being awarded at the Christmas night out to the year’s winner.
