Midlock Medical Centre is a busy inner city practice in the Ibrox area of Glasgow.
We have a practice population of around 8,600 patients. We have 7 GP partners, GP trainees, regular locums and have recently employed a GP retainer. We also have 1 practice nurse, 1 treatment room nurse, a healthcare assistant and a dietician. We have good working relationships with the local district nursing team and health visitor team.
As a full time trainee you would be expected to do 9 sessions, 7 of which are clinical and 2 for protected learning. Your clinical sessions would include face to face consultations, telephone consultations and triage, and house calls.
As a practice we have a number of areas of special interest which can provide excellent learning opportunities. These include GP training, and plans to incorporate FY2 training in the near future; addictions services (we run a weekly methadone clinic), providing care to nursing home and intermediate care patients, contraceptive implant and diabetic clinics.
We are a well established training practice and many of our previous trainees have taken up partnerships at the practice and in the local area, as well as providing regular locum work, maternity cover etc.
We are a busy practice and the job can be demanding, but we ensure that the trainee is considered part of the team and is supported in all aspects of their training. We have consistently received positive feedback from trainees and this has been recognised by us receiving the Good Practice Award for 2 years running.
