Size and Staffing

The practice moved to a purpose-built dormer bungalow in October 1986. The Practice was further modernized in 2003. There is a new purpose-built operating room and an educational suite, both with state of the art facilities. The Practice has a population of 4,500 patients with a good range of ages and social spectrum, albeit skewed to the higher end with very low level of deprivation.

There are three partners. The Trainer, Dr Paul M Newman, is responsible for Diabetes care and has an interest in Minor Surgery, Joint Injections,Preventative Medicine and Obesity. Dr Paul M Newman is also the current Chair of Diabetes UK. The co-trainer is Dr Sheena K Fraser and she has an interest in Dermatology and also Minor Surgery. Dr Thomas F Kaye is also a qualified trainer and has an interest in Sports Medicine, Rheumatoid Arthritis and Joint Injections.
The Practice uses the Socratic teaching theme. Our Clinical practice is evidence based. There is a weekly clinical team meeting which is attended by all clinical staff including the attached staff such as student nurses/student health visitors. We strongly encourage all those in attendance to participate fully.

The Practice has a Practice Nursing Sister who covers all areas of chronic disease management, wound care, cervical cytology and assists in the operating room with minor surgery cases. We use only disposable equipment in the Practice.

The practice is paperless and has state of the art IT facilities. We use Vision Software and to date all registrars have very much enjoyed the benefits of being paperless.

The Practice Manager has a strong back ground in Information Technology and staff development.

Registrar Information

The GP StR has two tutorials per week and an e-portfolio session in addition. Furthermore, there is protected time for both the trainer and the trainee for these educational events, as well as debriefing time at the end of each surgery. Participation is mandatory for these meetings. Each GP StR has their own consulting room and we regard them as an integral part of the Practice Team.

The Practice offers a wide range of clinical experience and expertise. We receive referrals from other GPs for minor surgery and joint injections and these clinics are run by Dr Paul M Newman and Dr Sheena K Fraser.
