Interesting Features
We are an innovative and dynamic medical practice working from a modern bright purpose-built premises in the heart of the south west of Glasgow. In keeping with the requirements and challenges of modern General Practice our doctors all work at 15 minute appointments. We have an excellent multi-disciplinary team of Practice Nurses, District Nurses and Health Visitors on site. We have weekly meetings with the full primary healthcare team which assists team spirit and effective communications. We have daily informal meetings with the clinicians in the Practice as well as structured tutorial time for all of our GP STs and FY2 doctors. We also have onsite assistance from a Prescribing Adviser and a Drug Worker at our drug misuse clinic. We try to foster a caring and creative learning environment at the practice and our emphasis on teamwork is hopefully transferred as a high standard of clinical care for our patients.
The Coronavirus pandemic has clearly presented a lot of challenges to General Practice but through the increased use of Video consultations, telephone consultations and email – as well as Zoom and Microsoft Team Meetings while adapting the premises to enhance social distancing and easy sterilisation – we feel we have still been able to offer a comprehensive and responsive service to our patients. After triaging our contacts we can offer face to face consultations for anyone who requires to be seen – with appropriate personal protection equipment and housecalls for the housebound when necessary.
We continue to offer a full range of primary care diagnostic services.
Educational Opportunities
Our trainees all have their own consulting rooms and protected learning time as well as access to our extensive practice library and online teaching opportunities.
We have a dynamic training environment and as well as our Specialist Trainees we also take doctors at Foundation Year 2 level and undergraduates from Glasgow University.
The Health Visitors and District Nurses also have an active role in training nurses from Caledonian University.
We are involved in research projects with the Postgraduate Dept. of General Practice and the Glasgow Clinical Research Facility
We encourage the completion of Quality Improvement exercises.
Clinical Audit, significant events and trigger tool event monitoring are all encouraged.
All of our GPs have trained at Crookston Medical Centre in some way – either through Specialist Training or the GP Retainer Scheme – we thus feel we have been able to cultivate stability, strong bonds and ethos of continuity within the practice
