Foundation Programmes

Disclaimer *Read This First*

All applicants allocated to Scotland will be guaranteed a 2 year foundation programme.

However, it is important to note that even after being matched to and starting an individual programme within the 2 year foundation programme, you may have to change from the indicative allocated individual programme or have placements within your individual allocated programme altered at short notice.

This could be for a number of reasons, including your training needs, working time regulations, national directives and service redesign.

General information

  • Placement Year: F1
  • Duration: 12 months (3 x 4 months or 2 x 6 months)
  • W24 is an academic programme.
If allocated to a Programme in the West Region, you will be allocated to Foundation Year 1 in the first instance. Options for rotation in the second year of your programme will be available to you during F1. Your individual Foundation programme director will coordinate an allocation process within your allocated programme which will take into account your preferences. This will take place in advance of the timetable for specialty training applications.
